Wegovy is name of the brand of a new 2.4mg Semaglutide injection. It’s licensed to treat chronic weight management in adults who are considered obese and have at least one weight related health problem. Wegovy contains the medicine Semaglutide which has been around for many years. Semaglutide has been used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and is also prescribed to help patients with weight loss.

Wegovy is a prescription medication containing the active ingredient ‘Semaglutide’ and has recently received approval from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for patients who meet eligibility criteria, including carrying excess weight as an effective weight loss drug.
The same active ingredient, Semaglutide, is found in existing medical products including Ozempic and Rybelsus, which are currently only approved/licensed for use in managing patients with type 2 diabetes, but both are often prescribed for weight management.
